How can you stay motivated these days?

When motivational quotes no longer help

Motivation… Where is it these days, when motivational trainings are held on almost every corner, and social media is overflowing with inspiring quotes? More and more motivational experts are emerging, and bloggers and vloggers share new motivational content every day. Yet somehow, many of us still feel a lack of motivation. What’s happening to us and to the world that demand and supply just don’t seem to meet?

Why don’t motivational quotes actually help?

For me, one of the most inspiring things is talking to people who radiate positive energy. When I ask if they love their work, they answer enthusiastically, glowing with that inner fire that drives them forward every single day. They’ve found the engine that keeps them going.

The heart is the best fuel, and the soul is the lubricant. But neither lasts forever – they both need regular maintenance, or else the whole mechanism wears out and breaks down. That’s what we often forget. Luckily, there are people who remind us of this and help us rediscover our motivation.

The secret of the inner fire

Passionate people aren’t motivated because they have a dream job or an incredible salary. Their secret is that they are driven by an inner fire – not by others’ approval or praise. They don’t expect everyone to understand or love what they do. It’s enough that they themselves believe in it. They listen to others’ opinions, but they don’t let envy or negativity steer them off course. That’s true motivation: a fire that burns so deeply within that no external force can ever extinguish it.

Recognition and self-esteem

Of course, it feels good when our work is acknowledged – we’re only human, after all. Recognition can be motivating, but how can we really know whether the person praising us is qualified to judge our performance? Perhaps we’re better off being our own toughest critics. Each of us knows how much energy we’ve put into something – and how much more we could have added. If we evaluate ourselves by our own standards, there might be less frustration and burnout.

Goals and the journey

Everyone has goals, but how and how quickly we reach them isn’t what matters most. This journey is a kind of race, yes, but everyone who sets out is already a winner. The most important thing is that the fuel called motivation never runs dry. And if it does, we must refill it – not from outside sources, but from our own inner reserves.

How to find motivation

Don’t expect others to motivate you. Find your own source of fuel. It can be anything – your family, your hobby, your work, an exceptional skill, or even a positive trait of yours. The key is to take care of it, nurture it, and never let it run dry.

There will be ups and downs – that’s completely natural. Some days will be harder than others, but the hardest times are when you feel no motivation at all. When you’re just drifting, indifferent to what happens around you. That’s a sign you haven’t yet found your own path – that you still need inspiration.

The search for motivation: an inner journey

Most people don’t find motivation overnight. Some travel half the world or live half their lives searching for it, trying countless things that ultimately don’t inspire them. They may fail or get disappointed many times, but they always rise again and keep searching for what truly drives them. No one can tell you what motivates you – only you can discover that, within yourself.

So the most important question to ask isn’t how to be more motivated, but rather: what is your source of fuel?

Tips for maintaining motivation

  • Take regular breaks: Sometimes your mind and body simply need rest. Overworking yourself can quickly lead to burnout.
  • Be kind to yourself: Don’t beat yourself up if you’re going through a tougher period. Motivation is cyclical – sometimes it’s high, sometimes it dips.
  • Plan ahead: When you set clear goals and take things step by step, it’s easier to stay motivated.
  • Find a supportive community: Surround yourself with people who believe in you and inspire you.
  • Do what you love: The more you engage in activities that truly bring you joy, the easier it will be to find and keep your motivation.

And finally, remember: motivation comes from within. Your own inner source is the most reliable fuel.
